About Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic (TOR) is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game based in the Star Wars universe. The game is currently in development by BioWare for the PC platform. You can visit the official website at swtor.com.

There are two main factions in The Old Republic, the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. Players can choose either of those. Each faction also has different exclusive  classes.

Here’s a list of classes for the Sith Empire:

Galactic Republic will have access to the following classes:

Each of these classes will have their own storyline, however all will be integrated with the games existing overall arc.

Unlike what we’re used to from other MMORPG games, classes in the Old Republic will not be limited to typical archetypes like healing, tanking or dps. Developers stated that each class will support live customization and every class will be able to fulfill any role necessary. The classes in Star Wars will be inclined to choose a play style such as ranged or melee, but the customization will allow a more diverse set of¬† skills without the need for a specific class in group situations.

The story in Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place shortly after the establishment of a tenuous peace between the re-emergent Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, about 300 years after the events of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games and more than 3,500 years before the events in the Star Wars films. The Jedi are held responsible for the success of the Sith and choose to relocate from Coruscant to Tython, where the Jedi order had been initially founded, to seek guidance from the Force. The Sith control Korriban, where they re-established a Sith Academy, and the game begins as new conflicts arise.

The galaxy in Star Wars 100,000 light-years in diameter and consists of billions of star systems. It is estimated there are more than one million inhabited worlds of which many are still unknown. There’s several popular planetary systems, and if you’re a real Star Wars fan you’re probably already familiar with some of them.

  • Korriban
  • Ord Mantell
  • Nal Hutta
  • Tython
  • Coruscant
  • Balmorra
  • Alderaan
  • Tatooine
