If you’re one of those players who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the pre-orders, here’s some additional happy news for you. In the investor report from Electronic Arts there’s an announcement that there will be beta test weekends starting in September.
“As anticipation grows, BioWare also proudly announced today that Star Wars: The Old Republic will open “Beta Test Weekends” starting this September. These weekend play sessions will be open to selected players worldwide and create an opportunity for fans to get a sneak peek of the epic stories, worlds, quests, battles and characters in the game”
So in a few months most of you will be able to experience SWTOR first hand. Although there will no doubt be countless players getting into the beta testing I’m confident we’ll be able to give out a few beta keys to you via this site as well, so be sure to keep an eye on that as well. Those of you who did or will preorder the game will most likely have access to all these beta weekends (it has been stated players who pre-order will get early game access, although it wasn’t specified if these beta weekends are in play).
One additional piece of great news from this report is that the targeted release for Star Wars: The Old Republic is this year’s holiday season:
“We are targeting Star Wars: The Old Republic to be one of the biggest launches of holiday 2011″
Unfortunately yet again we don’t have an exact date, but this is as good as it gets.

so it’s not free what so ever
@bigyoda, no it will not be F2P (Free to Play). It will be P2P (Pay to Play). Usually mmo’s like this will do this. But the good thing is that you (the player) has to pay like..around $15 a month. $15, that’s easy to get. Get a job, mow lawns, etc.
he is right, it WILL be pay to play, that has been confirmed, and here is the payment plan they have set up
you can buy it
1 month intervals- $15 a month
3 Month intervals- $42 every 3 months
or 6 month intervals- $78 every 6 months
so honestly you would be better off buying it in 3/6 month intervals, but if you cant do that, then it would be fairly easy to do the $15 a month
I personally love the fact that this game is gonna be P2P
reasons
1 Less chance of overcrowding (for this game i have my doubts)
2 I end up actually saving a little more money example will only go to the pub at the weekend not during the week
3 even if you pay in 1 month intervals $15 forgive my ignorance as i’m from the uk but what will that buy you a few soft drinks?
