“The Packaged Goods title release schedule excludes Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is expected to launch in either Q2 FY12 or Q3 FY12“
Q2 FY12 and Q3 FY12 correspond to July through September and October through December, respectively, of this year. It’s been awhile since we got any information about the potential release date so hopefully this will make some of you at least a little happy.
However, again it’s nothing concrete as the release date might get pushed further:
While we fully anticipate launching Star Wars: The Old Republic in Q2 or Q3, the low end of our guidance range assumes the outside possibility of a January launch.”
Assuming the worst the “guidance range” can be extended all the way to March 2012. Although such a scenario is unlikely, it’s still something to keep in mind. EA has always been reluctant to give out a specific launch window, and they stated the following two reasons as the main cause:
- not wanting to tip their hand to the competition
- they want to gather more information from testing to provide a quality launch.
Stephen Reid, the Senior Online Community Manager at BioWare posted on the official forums with a reminder of the projected release window:
Everyone at BioWare and EA is working to ensure that Star Wars: The Old Republic is delivered at the quality level you expect from BioWare and Star Wars.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is expected to launch in the second half of 2011. Information on the release date and pre-order programs will be released as it becomes available.
In other news, Massively reported that the beta testing for SWTOR might begin soon in Europe. If you signed up, good luck!
