A disgruntled ex-employee of EA/Mythic by the nickname of EALouse recently revealed some nasty details of what’s going on inside the company and how it affects the games we play. He worked on Warhammer Online, but also has some insider information about Star Wars: The Old Republic.
According to him, the game will be a failure. Apparently the only decent thing about SWTOR are voiceovers, while the gameplay is definitely lacking.
And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas,they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch.
Unfortunately there’s no way to verify his statement at this time, but does this really mean the game will suck? There’s still time until SWTOR is released, and much can and will change. There’s no way to tell how the game will look when it’s released, and we can all only hope it will be perfect. Considering how many recently released MMORPG games really were bad, I’m hoping the same will not happen to Star Wars, a game we all eagerly await.
Furthermore EA Louse mentioned that Star Wars: TOR cost more than $300 million! To put it in perspective, he mentioned James Cameron’s Avatar which cost about $280 million. As a comparison, some sources claim World of Warcraft development and upkeep costs to date are far less than $200 million. While the amount of money EA put into SWTOR is certainly admirable, I wonder if the game can actually be that bad in the end?
Considering how much money they put into SWTOR, I think it’ll be a decent game with a lot of players. Will it ever reach the numbers of WoW is hard to say, but I doubt it will be a “failure“.

Even though im kind of annoyed at Blizzard’s way of handling errors in their games (by not hotfixing but waiting for months until they fix the easiest most mundane errors) and how they continue to piss on and overlook my class/spec (Enhancement shaman) I have to say that World Of Warcraft will likely never be surpassed or even close to.
The game is simply too good and too complex (wich when put hand in hand is the recipe for pure success) to ever be touched. World Of Warcraft, despite what you may think of it, is a work of pure genius.
Blizzard is by far the most customer-connected company and so far their ability to listen and compromise with its players have gotten them far.
They do not seem to have an equivalent of the enormous egocentric bastard that is Apple’s Steve Jobs for example.
I hope Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic does not fail. We need more BIG MMO’s instead of just WoW.
It should also be remembered that this EA Louse could simply be venting steam and talking rubbish. Even if they actually believe what they are saying they could be wrong. In addition I think comparing games to one another is a mistake, yes Wow has been extraordinarily popular but that doesn’t mean there can’t be another big popular game. Personally I wasn’t impressed with Wow but others were, if they enjoy it then I say more power to them, have fun. But don’t fall prey to the tribal warfare mentality of “my games better than your game and you must agree with me or be wrong”. For myself, I just hope disgruntled ex-employee doesn’t ruin the game by causing trouble.

This post should be thrown out. Simply by the fact that this is a “Disgruntled Employee” which means he left the company on bad terms, most likely not by his own free will. He is just looking to hurt a game that he knows himself will be good, and is so frustrated with the fact that he is no longer apart of this work of art. That all he can do to vent is to be a dick and try to ruin revenue for the game by posting slander.
If they really think the game is going to fill it was scrapped long time ago already. What’s the point of pumping all that money in the game than anyway?
Really, most games that get created in a studio are thrown in the garbage can. Only when they are absolutely sure that it is worth the risk they will publish it, so looks like EA still has a lot of faith in SW:TOR.
Even if this guy is right that won’t stop me from playing it. I am a very dedicated Star Wars fan and I even played GBA and all other console Star Wars games and I still love them. And besides, the companies that “pumped” money into the production of this game are big companies that sold milions of other games (I will not name them). So regarding this statement…..I doubt I will be disappointed
I agree that its not intelligent to make any calls now, I am keeping my hopes up that EA will pull this off well. it is disappointing to hear this news, but you have to consider the source (what we know of him/her)
Oh and It is NOT inappropriate to compare SWTOR to WOW. They both follow the same game model, and the business model is similar. They will both be competing with each other in the same space in the same market.
I’m sick of hearing ppl say “you cant compare this to WoW.” you very well CAN compare them, and you SHOULD. you should because that’s the best way to communicate the consumer’s priorities to EA.
What made WoW great? be specific.
What made WoW Bad? again be specific.
Blizzard made a game with well thought out mechanics, a well directed aesthetic, and a good (if generic) narrative. For SWTOR to be great it has to do these things at least as well.

Hey there Star Wars fans. I do not believe that SWTOR will be a failure. Whether or not it will be as popular as WOW is yet to be determined. I have seen all the media videos on everything, and it all looks great. What this guy/girl is saying is not going to influence me. I am still going to play the game. Star Wars Lucasarts needs a good MMO right now since Star Wars Galaxies, which was a big flop, was taken out of circulation.
Plus, There are plenty of star wars fans out there that are wanting to play the game. For example: I joined a Republic guild called rebirth of the jedi. There are already out 17, 738 Republic guilds out there, thats not counting all the members. There are many more Empire, PvE, and Role Play guilds out there. Star Wars has a huge fan base to draw on for the game.
I personally think the game is going to be great, and maybe give WOW a run for its money.
I have to say from watching many videos i to would say the sound is amazing,and that is a feat they should be greatly proud of. They will be one of the few if not the only one mmo to introudece the true voicework and beutiful sound. They cant revalutionize much as the combat will most likly be cloese to all mmorpgs but this guy must be pissed for they also take alot of pride in the story they are putting into this game.

SWTOR sux: too much cinematics and PvE. Truly good games should add hardcore PvP and fast quests to level up asap.
judging by his stance he is fairly biased for being terminated, and most of this is probably just hater-aid. clearly pre-order saies, and hype will make this game not a failure at least in sales. Game play is a matter of opinion. I mean look at wow its very simple, very repetitive, practically no immersion, but some 10 million people still play it (that and facebook games).
can we say WoW clone in space? just another mmo, but only for beginners, lol. sorry to say, but nothing will ever compete with WoW.
WOW has one of the most in depth story lines and deep interest from its relating products. I classify Star Wars like this as well, only Star Wars is old in terms of years old and its influence over the world. More people know about Star Wars than WOW any day of week to every corner of the globe. I think SWTOR has a shot, but it will be plagued by the SWG released a couple years back, does not matter who or what company dropped that ball, it will be a reflection of that corrupted game for a time.
The comparison will any game be as good or better than WOW when it comes out, is NO probably not. The comparison for me is that will any maker stick to their guns and not give in like WOW did to panzies out there and just make the product they believe in that works and not get sucked into the dollar machine. Again I think SWTOR is made for a money machine, it is unfortunate, but millions of past WOW subscribers will all agree they need a change and they are looking towards SWTOR to be that change, when their friends in WOW leave to play there they will follow.
I believe there is still another amazing story line out there, and it would unseat WOW its been around 25+ years and has hundred of novels written on it. Has a dual RP format, has a realm 4 times larger than EvE. I still hope that someone will make it into a game.
Sorry but WoW is old news now, it drew me in n I was hardcore for a couple years but the only thing to look forward to is the next expansion (minus kung fu panda and pokemon battle pets) for the new lvl cap, quests n whatnot. ToR lets u actually be an evil or good toon with actually choices that change ur game play and your next run through if want to go a different path. With WoW, being either horde or ally doesnt matter, ur basically working together doin the SAME quests. Yes its nice when ur doin ur next toon n lvl it easy since you already know all the quests but til u cap n can do real pvp n raiding, the games weak. Combats gonna be fun since neither side can be the others classes, having different specials really makes it “me against you”. Its not just going to rely on whose better geared n gets the first hit. !Cataclysm! is fun n ill b keeping my BE rogue in case they wise up n let me actually be evil while doin my napoleon dynamite dance but ToR has already got them beat with their launch. I only see them fallin behind if they foul up on the +2 races on their first expansion and eventual new class (DK=went hard til they took out corpse explosion. Monk=wtf?). First comment on a forum! Cherry popped! But lookin like now that its closer to release n theyre sharin more game info not too much hatin anywhere, anymore….sigh. See yall there!
ToR doesn’t even have to be a WoW killer. WoW is already doing that nicely, having lost 2 million subscribers before ToR even releases from Caytaclysm and now Mists of Pandaria. Sit there and “lol” all you want, you can’t change the fact that 1/6th of the players have already left. It’ll only get worse when this game releases, too. But hey, if you want to pay 15 bucks a month to play Pokemon, be my guest, oh Hardcore Elitists. Heh.
@Randkin there’s to big reasons why their numbers have fallen by that much-
1) The original game creators(the ones that wow everyone with their awesomeness,) have been on a different project, since wotlk Alpha (I’m sure you can tell which thing in wotlk are origional a-team, and which are made by the new team.
2) The mmo market is a has-been. It’s old news, and the veil is no longer there like it used to be. Too many years of mmo’s being mainstream – and they require a lot of your time. This was feesible when wow was new – newer, but now, it doesn’t feel worth it. People want to play other games and not suck up every drop of time on mundane tasks on just one game.

Galaxies could have been great but the combat downgrade sent me and my wife packing the game was a total bust afterwards they also screwed us over by starting to give out the jedi class instead of the grinder way, the problem with TOR is it is almost a niche game if your a star wars fan you’ll love the scenery planets etc … some things you won’t like is no free speeder cheap swoop etc no house etc at the beginning like galaxies but that could be bioware trying to be different. the combat is okay at best theyDO need to tweak it and some things like adjustments for character’s being attacked to auto target the closest target etc but over all not a bad game I am still holding out that it will blow galaxies away ….. we’ll see good luck ea / bioware on this one best advice is listen to the players. sony didn’t and well galaxies is a quaint but forgetable game now. and world of warcrack is still pumping along strong just a few thoughts ….
Star wars the old republic SWTOR, is already fail, worst launch I have ever seen.
Nothing but problems, and they seem to ignore and not address serious issues.
They rolled out new content before they fixed the current content, and before they fixed major problems, that disallow gameplay for many. Everytime they release an update more and more people seem to be effected by widespread reports of low frame rates. People with brand new high end gaming machines getting 5 frames a sec or less in combat, when other people with 5 year old rigs, are running the game perfectly. BW lies and pretends the frame rate problem only effects 5% of people with low end systems, but it effects those with brand new systems as well.
this game is totaly failure pvp 100%fail and maintaince at least for eu ppl so fail buggs quests are boring and what to do at lvl 50 when got all gear i did swg and that game would own this so easy whith stuff u can do .all ppl should get refound from this game was 60 euro to trow
I am not even a fan of Star Wars (only watched like 2 of the older movies) however this seems like an awesome game so far. Only problem is, this stupid f^cking business of server maintenance, seriously ???? I mean it’s 2012, look how far advanced technology is, work on NOT needing this sh^t every week !! You think about it, That’s on average 32 hours a month of paid time that you couldn’t play, totaling 48 days worth of play a year that you couldn’t play BUT paid for… that’s like a month and a half of play. BS imo.

I rather don’t play the game even with my subscription(game card+ 30 free days) running. I was having a bit of fun until lvl 19 or so. But really felt disappointed about the game on lvl 30, i am 50 now and its worse. Never seen such a linear prison like MMORPG.

1. GUI is something a subhuman Windows 3.0 programmer gets off on.
2. Graphics that looks like what you would get if George Lucas anal raped Clone Wars using the limitations of 2005 tech console shit.
3. Crafting that has ZERO purpose for anyone at 50.
4. Cookie cutter gameplay that makes WoW look cutting edge.
5. Space combat that’s on RAILS, where Star Wars Galaxies had FREE roaming combat back in 2005, and Tie Fighter had back in 1995! But these guys go with a rail shooter. Pathetic.
6. Oh did I mention the most pathetic decision of all: going with the Hero engine which is nothing but an easy drag and drop content engine for devs, but boring and cookie cutter as hell for everyone else who had to play the game.
And the game isn’t optimized for shit. 16 player warzones run like shit on good computer rigs, where as a game like EVE Online can have 1000+ players on screen shooting each other without FPS issues, not to mention every other high end FPS game on the market can handle 64 players with ease, but nooooo, this un-optimized piece of shit can barely handle 10 people let alone hundreds.
$90 wasted (game + 2 months sub). Never again. Now that Guild Wars 2, Secret World, Planetside 2, and others are breathing down WOWTOR’s neck, oops I mean SWTOR, this game is going downhill quickly. Majority of the servers are ghost towns (the ones who still play want to get server transfers NOW not later), there is a large patch coming soon, but it’s not enough to keep a lot of people subbed. Oh and did I mention that they just recently had FREE TRIALS over last weekend ALREADY? LOLOLOL. And it’s not $10 off the game. I am counting down until the game is $30 in 2 months time, and 9 months time they will finally go to a F2P platform (with all of the assorted corporate bullshit speak about “giving the customers more options”).

Great! You’ve made my day. Apparently EA decided not to release the game in all European Union countries. I’m from Romania and can’t download the game from Origin. Other Romanians decided that this is ok for them and managed to get a copy of the game from Amazon etc. They don’t care that EA gives a rats’ tail on them…

Worst game ever. Jam packed full of bugs still… PvP is horrible. PvE is easy, horrible, and boring. Lack of updates and lack of critical thinking make this team one of the worst teams to ever release an MMO once again.
This guy hit the nail on the head, anyone who says otherwise is lieing due to “bioware fanboy syndrome” and even the fanboys are starting to change their minds.

He said all this before release warning everyone and he was written off as ‘discredited’ crackpot with an axe to grind by blinded fans who couldn’t see the train coming down the track but he was right all along.
I was a big biodrone, I’m ashamed to admit it, I wanted to love this game so hard and stuck it out for the first month but I just couldn’t ignore flaw after flaw and neither could my friends in my guild who unsubbed one by one until it was only me left and I finally gave up and felt remorse for basically conning under the false pretences Bioware lead me and others by with the hype, my friends to leave other games to play this junk.

First the ilum disaster which the solution was to abandon the whole planet LOL, then removing ranked warzones hours before 1.2 after most people resubbed, then the whole ongoing FPS drops and crashing problems when any serious groups get together to pvp anyway. Just one joke after another.
